About Lisa Giovinazzo, JD

Lisa Giovinazzo, an attorney /mediator and the Legal Director of SIDMC was one of the first lawyers to practice divorce mediation on Staten Island. An attorney for more than 15 years, Lisa has received extensive training in divorce mediation and the collaborative law process and understands the stresses divorce can bring into a family first hand. Lisa’s own parents facilitated one of the lengthiest and costliest divorces in Staten Island history spanning more than ten years and costing exorbitant amounts of money. She is acutely aware of the dynamics a divorcing family goes through and is committed to giving her clients the most comprehensive and current information available so they may resolve their conflicts swiftly and fairly.

In addition to private practice, Lisa has also appeared as correspondent and commentator on various networks across the country and regularly offers legal advice and analysis. These experiences have allowed her to develop the strong interpersonal and communications skills that are necessary to help couples succeed in the mediation process. Lisa also possesses a wealth of experience in the financial field and has taught courses in finance and administration as an adjunct professor for am Executive MBA program in NYC and appeared as a financial correspondent on Bloomberg Television. She has also worked with NY1 News and PBS as a correspondent and commentator.

 In addition to mediation Lisa has received special training in Collaborative Law, perhaps the best alternative when couples feel mediation is not the answer. Collaborative Law utilizes the skills of mediation and advocates a no court divorce outcome, but each person in the partnership is represented by an attorney In fact Lisa is one of the only attorneys on Staten Island to receive certification by the New York Sate Supreme Court after taking extensive training in the Collaborative Law process. Lisa is also a member of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals.

Lisa received her law degree from Touro College of Law and also attended the Master’s program in Communications at New York University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Lisa has a BS from St. John’s University and is a member of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, Association for Conflict Resolution, New York Association of Collaborative Professionals and has also received training from the LGBTQ Collaborative Professionals of New York. Lisa is a contributing mediator for to New York Center for Interpersonal Development and lecturer for their Parenting Program and is a board of trustee member of the Staten Island Children’s Museum and local chapter of the American Red Cross.
